Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When was the FAME Jazz Band Program established?

The program was established in August 2015 by A. Toni Lewis Founder of FAME – Foundation for the Advancement of Music & Education, Inc., to provide high caliber music and academic instruction for middle and high school students, who play musical instruments and who live and/or attend school in Prince George’s County Maryland. Homeschooled youth are encouraged to apply. In addition to receiving superior music instruction, students will receive subject matter tutoring, life skills training and support, and college prep.  FAME’s overall goal is to bring a diverse group of talented students together to learn, practice and perform in a dynamic jazz band. Students are part of the program until they graduate from high school.

Who is the band’s Artistic Director?

The Artistic Director is Nat Adderley, Jr. (Bio), international jazz pianist and former music director, composer, and arranger for music icon Luther Vandross.
